Controller
International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability, represented by Roger Ghanem, President of IASSAR, is responsible for processing personal data in connection with this website.
Further provider information is available in the legal notice. This policy is intended to provide the information required by Articles 12–14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where that regulation applies.
Website access
This static website has no user accounts, contact form, analytics, advertising pixels, marketing cookies, social-media trackers, or embedded third-party widgets. Fonts, images, icons, and scripts are served with the website; no Font Awesome Kit or remote font service is loaded.
To deliver a requested page, the server and network infrastructure process the visitor's IP address together with technical request information. This can include the request date and time, requested path, HTTP status, transferred data volume, referrer if supplied by the browser, and browser user-agent information.
This processing is necessary to transmit the website, keep it available, prevent misuse, and investigate technical or security incidents. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f): IASSAR's legitimate interest in providing a secure and reliable public website.
Hosting, network, and technical-maintenance providers can receive connection data only where this is necessary to operate and protect the website. IASSAR does not sell visitor data or disclose it for advertising.
Connection data is used to deliver and protect the website. Infrastructure security or error records are retained according to operational, security, and legal requirements. The website does not use those data to build a browsing history or user profile.
Cookies and browser storage
The website sets no HTTP cookies. It uses one first-party local-storage value only after a visitor chooses a light or dark color theme.
iassar-themelight or dark, used to restore the display preference selected with the theme button.The value remains in that browser and is not transmitted to IASSAR or used as an identifier. The storage and later access provide a display function expressly requested by the visitor and are treated as strictly necessary under section 25(2), no. 2 TDDDG. Because the site uses no consent-requiring storage, it does not display a consent banner.
Contact
The website has no contact form. Selecting an email link only opens the visitor's email application; the website sends nothing. If a visitor sends a message, IASSAR processes the sender's address, name, message, mail metadata, and any attachments to answer and administer the request.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR—our legitimate interest in responding to association-related correspondence—or Article 6(1)(b) where the message concerns a contract or pre-contractual steps.
Messages use the sender's email provider and the mail systems serving the published Tongji University address. The contact point receives and handles messages in the P.R. China, outside the European Economic Area. China is not currently covered by a European Commission adequacy decision. Selecting an email link does not itself transmit a message; data is transmitted when the visitor sends the email through their mail provider.
Correspondence is deleted when the request is resolved and no longer needed, unless it must be retained for association records, a legal obligation, or the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.
Association records
The website publishes professional information about IASSAR office holders, committee members, award recipients, plenary speakers, and editors named in conference records. This can include names, institutional affiliations, association roles, awards, lecture or publication details, and relevant dates.
Sources include IASSAR's organizational records and historical workbook, conference programs and proceedings, and public academic sources. IASSAR processes this information under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for its legitimate interests in transparent governance, recognition of academic work, and maintaining an accurate historical record of the association and its conferences.
These records are publicly available worldwide and may be indexed or archived by independent third parties. Current records are updated as roles change; historical entries are maintained as an association and conference archive. Their continued publication is reviewed if an individual requests a correction or raises an objection using the privacy contact above.
Your choices
Subject to the conditions in applicable law, data subjects can request access to their personal data, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability. They can object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for reasons arising from their particular situation.
No one is required by law or contract to provide personal data through this website. Technical connection data is required to deliver a requested page, and contact details are needed if a reply is requested. IASSAR does not use automated decision-making or profiling on this website.
Requests can be sent to chenjb@tongji.edu.cn. Affected individuals also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority. The European Data Protection Board lists EEA supervisory authorities.
This policy is reviewed when the website's services or data-processing practices change.
